There was no solace to be found in darkness that night. The visions were always the same. The same wide eyes. The same wide mouth. The same scream. It was the scream that got him. That terrible, bloodcurdling scream. He had heard screams before. It was expected by now. He didn’t know why that particular scream that stayed with him. Well, he did, but he wasn’t going to think about that. And it was just as well that that particular screaming face haunted him. It served as a reminder that it didn’t matter how much someone said they loved you, that nothing could make them leave. They always left. Always. No one could get past it
